Goltugh (Koltukh, Qoltuq) is a village in Qoltuq Rural District, in the Central District of Zanjan County, Zanjan Province, Iran. Rugs from this area are woven tightly with strong wool on a double weft cotton foundation. These rugs carry similar characteristics to rugs coming from Bijar, the dense construction of the rug, Herati styled patterns and a medallion set upon a secondary diamond shape in the foreground. Goltugh rugs are commonly found in smaller sizes no larger than 5’x8′ – 6’x9′. Colors found in these rugs are navy blues, rich reds, rose, ivory and an array of accent colors. The density of knots usually ranges from about 100 -250 KPSI. These rugs are very durable and are a nice alternative to Bijar rugs.
