This is an authentic vintage Persian Isfahan rug hand-knotted in Persia, woven with an all wool pile on a cotton foundation. Very minor wear on the pile, see photos, this rug is in very good condition.
Isfahan, a city and capital of the province of Isfahan located in central Iran. This city produces the most consistently fine wool pile rugs made anywhere in the world today. Their quality may be matched by individual items from other major Persian workshop groups, but Isfahan produces far fewer poor quality rugs. Isfahan rugs are knotted on either silk or cotton foundations, with up to 400 Persian knots per square inch, using exceptional quality wool (often Kork) for the pile, which is normally clipped quite low. Rugs from Isfahan usually have ivory backgrounds with blue, rose, and indigo motifs. These rugs often have very symmetrical and balanced designs. They usually have a single medallion that is surrounded by vines and palmettos. Overall, Isfahan rugs are well known for their excellent quality.
